Summerhill Schoolはイギリスにある６〜１８歳の子どもに対応している民主制度の寄宿学校。１９２１年にA.S.Neillが創立して、「世界で最も歴史が長い子どもの民政コミュニティ」とも呼ばれている。２００５年に私は１週間滞在して本当に感動的な学校だと思った。子どもは自由いっぱいの環境の中に生き生きとしていた（一日中木を登ったり自転車で走って回ったりする子もいた。）民主制度のスクールミーティングでは、スタッフと子どもの平等的な関係を見て驚きさらに感動した。 “子どもの独立” の続きを読む

Summerhill School is a democratically-run boarding school in England for children aged six to eighteen. Founded by A.S. Neill in 1921 it is sometimes called “the oldest children’s democracy in the world,” and when I visited for a week in 2005 I loved it – I said to my mother “That’s the first school I’ve visited that I actually like!” The kids had so much freedom – some of them went to lessons but many of them simply spent the day climbing trees and messing around on bicycles.
