and warms the air so we can grow veggies in winter

and in the same way CO2 holds the sun’s heat

So when there’s lots of CO2 the earth heats up

well, anyway, photosynthetic life took carbon from the atmosphere
地下の下に埋もれてくれた
and very graciously buried it underground
このプロセスは数億年続いて
that continued for millions of years
大気から二酸化炭素が減らされ
CO2 levels in the atmosphere went down
地球の 温度が下がってきた
and the earth’s temperature also came down
生き物がますます増え
living things steadily increased
進化する様々な種類になって
and evolved into many different species
やっと２０万年前に我々人間は誕生した
and then 200 thousand years ago we humans finally appeared

grew vegetable and developed agriculture

kept slaves
まあ本も書いたり
well, and wrote books
医学を考え出したり
and thought up medicine
地球の歴史の研究もしていた
and studied the history of the earth!
そして150年前に
And then, 150 years ago
産業革命を起こした
we started the Industrial Revolution
その時点から始まって現在までますます増やして
and from that point, steadily increasing until now
産業活動のために我々人間は
to power our oh-so-marvelous industrial activity, we humans
地下に埋もれている炭素を
found the carbon buried under the earth, and we
掘り出して
dug it up
燃やして
burned it
大気に戻している
and put it back into the atmosphere
これを続けるとどうなるともう？？
What do we think is going to happen if we keep doing this??
大気から炭素が地下に埋もれて
Again, the carbon got removed from the atmosphere and buried underground
温度が下がってきた
and the temperature went down
その炭素を燃やして大気に戻すと･･･
Now we’re putting that carbon BACK into the atmosphere
また暑くなる！
It’s going to get hot again!

今の地球の温度を保ちたいなら
If we want to keep the earth’s atmosphere as it is
